Favourite essential oils and how to use them
Woohoo! I don't know if there's anyone who loves trying new essential oil blends as much as me -- I mean there probably is, but point is, I L.O.V.E. them. I love the various ways you can use them, and I love all the amazing healing powers and positive energy they give off. There are so many benefits to using essential oils around your home and adding them into your beauty regime, so here are a few of my favourite ways to use my favourite oils:
I love using Lavender oil in my diffuser because let-me-tell-ya, nothing (and I mean nothing) will make your home smell more fresh or more beautiful than lavender. It leaves a light, warm feeling around your home -- so it's no wonder lavender is best-known as a natural stress reliever! Diffusing lavender around your home can also dodge the spread of germs and boost your immune system.
Other awesome ways you can add a little lavender into your life include adding a drop or two to the soles of your shoes to avoid stinky feet, adding 1-5 drops into a spray bottle with water to be used as a facial and/or body mist.
Blends well with: lemongrass, frankincense, sweet orange, peppermint
Another great oil is Lemongrass -- the uses of lemongrass are endless and beneficial. I love putting lemongrass in the diffuser beside my bed because not only does it energize you and stimulate alertness, but it's also great for warding off insects and spiders! I am terrified of spiders so believe me when I say this oil is my spider-warding-holy-grail.
Lemongrass has also become a staple in my beauty regime. I have oily-to-combination skin so obviously acne comes with the territory. Lemongrass has literally transformed my skin -- and I recommend to anyone who suffers from acne to try it out. Not only does it smell amazing on its own, but mix it with lavender or sweet orange and it will have you on a whole other level.
Blends well with: lavender, frankincense, sweet orange, eucalyptus, tea tree
Refreshing and uplifting -- sweet orange's best two properties. This sweet, citrus scent relieves stress and anxiety by soothing the mind and body. It can also be used to relieve headaches and treat fevers, so make sure to have this oil near by if you feel a fever coming on!
Blends well with: lavender, lemongrass
Tea tree is another great one for acne-prone skin as it helps control the spread of germs. It's an amazing antiseptic best known for it's powerful anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties. This is definitely something you want by your side if you have a cold, or live in the same household of someone who does. Other uses not everyone knows about, is tea tree oil is great for toothaches and wounds!
Blends well with: eucalyptus, lemongrass
Peppermint is magical when suffering from a cold, flu or sinus infection. I use 3-5 drops in my diffuser when I'm feeling sick to allow my sinuses to clear. It relieves congestion while soothing your respiratory system for a quick recovery. Yes, you can have a cold and still breathe out of your nose thanks to peppermint oil.
If you're experiencing indigestion, rubbing this oil around your stomach can help relieve any issues your experiencing. Peppermint is also key to relieving headaches and mental fatigue -- rub a small amount onto your scalp and trigger areas (for me, my jaw is a huge trigger area), you'll immediately feel it soothing and cooling your pain!

Eucalyptus has a minty-fresh scent that stimulates circulation, warms the body to relieve aches and pains, and helps fight the common cold. It can also be used as an antiseptic -- which blends nicely with lemongrass and/or tea tree.
My favourite thing to blend eucalyptus with is peppermint oil, especially when you're sick. The mix of peppermint and eucalyptus will speed up the process of clearing your sinus congestion, and do all the dirty work of clearing the virus from your system. Name a better duo, I'll wait.
Blends well with: peppermint, frankincense, lemongrass, tea tree
Different ways you can use these oils include: adding 1-3 drops to a cotton ball and hiding in an inconspicuous area of your washroom, 1-3 drops on your dryer sheets or cloth before doing a load, adding a few drops to a non-scented tea light candle, and of course, adding a few drops to your hot bath for a very soothing experience!
Just going to put this out there: make sure to "proceed with caution" when using essential oils on bare skin. I would recommend diluting the oils before contact with skin or else you will burn baby burn!
